At some point in business, there's a chance you might hit a wall. You're working the same clients over and over, and you can't seem to find a way to get your revenue up. In this post, we're going to cover the top 6 ways that we've seen landscapers increase their revenue.
Need More Business?
Top 6 Ways to Increase Revenue
1. Expand Your Service Area
If you're stuck in the same market that you've always serviced, it's time to branch out into other areas. This is easily done by marketing to nearby cities and towns. You'll probably find that using SEO and getting a new Google Business Profile in the areas that you'd like to serve is going to make a huge impact on getting clients in those areas.
Now, if you're in a small town that really doesn't have surrounding cities, this step won't really apply. That's why there are 5 more ways to increase your revenue!
2. Add Services
If you're mowing lawns and not doing anything else, you can easily add a ton of services. Below is a short list of some of the various services that you can offer as a landscaper:
- Tree trimming
- Hardscapes
- Outdoor living spaces
- Outdoor lighting
- Patios
- Retaining walls
- Sprinkler systems
And there's much more.
If you've hit a ceiling in your business and can't seem to get the revenue up, try adding in some services that complement what you're already doing. If you're already doing lawn care, it won't take much for you to also add landscape lighting. If you're already equipped to install boulders, you could probably easily add patio pavers to your services.
When you've decided which services you want to add, be sure to put them up on your website and start marketing those services to new people and existing clients.
3. Focus on Client Retention
When you take your family out to dinner, do you prefer to receive the customer service that you'd get at McDonald's? Or would you appreciate the customer service that you'd get at a 5-star restaurant?
Well, your customers also appreciate great customer service. This means having great communication with them, keeping them in the loop on everything that you're doing, and asking for feedback on anything they feel could improve your company and quality of service.
You'll begin to find that as you deliver those needs and wants, clients won't leave you for anybody else because everything about your company is exactly what they want in a landscaper.
4. Offer Winter Services
As a landscaper, you might be surprised at how much you can do during the winter. Many landscapers offer services like snow removal, salting, and sprinkler system winterization. These are all great services you can offer when fewer people are going to be calling for landscaping.
Of course, this may not apply to places where there's never really a winter (such as Miami or Phoenix).
5. Email Market Your Customers
One of the easiest ways to generate more revenue for your business is to upsell your existing customers through email marketing.
If things are slow, you can simply send out an offer to everyone you've worked with to get more people to buy services. This especially works well when you've added new services that your customers haven't had before.
For example, let's say that you have a list of 150 clients and they've all worked with you on your lawn care services. But now you're going to offer landscape lighting.
Write an email to all 150 of your clients letting them know that you offer landscape lighting and include a coupon for the services, as well as a photo of the difference that it makes when a house is beautifully lit with your landscape lighting services.
6. Increase Marketing
There's a term in the advertising and marketing industry called "Cost Per Acquisition" (CPA for short). CPA is the cost that you pay to acquire a new client. This is something that large companies track very closely, and it helps a company see how effective their marketing campaign is.
The reason why we mention CPA is that if you can see clearly that every $20 you spend on marketing brings you $200 in profit, then you'll also clearly see that you should spend more money on marketing.
But which marketing should you spend more money on? You should spend more money on the type of marketing that has the lowest CPA.
You may find that it costs you $50 to acquire a new client on Facebook, while it costs you $30 to acquire a client on Google Ads, and only $10 to acquire a client with SEO.
In this case, as long as all of them are generating great revenue for you, you should increase your marketing budget for all of them. However, if you don't want to spend a lot of money on the less effective marketing methods, you can also pour most of your marketing budget into the one thing that's generating the most leads.
